Community - Temple Shalom of the South Bay

Our Community...and Yours
Temple Shalom of the South Bay is a dynamic, growing progressive and liberal Jewish community in the South Bay of Los Angeles.
Our community was founded in 2005 and we are currently more than 50 families strong. Our vision from inception has been to create an inclusive, Jewish community that provides a nurturing umbrella for education, prayer, and social activities to better ourselves, our community, and the world.
Our progressive Religious School is in its seventh year and embraces the ideal of making Jewish learning a positive, stimulating and enjoyable experience. Our goal for our students is to instill a strong and positive Jewish identity, laying a foundation and desire for lifelong Jewish learning.
The Bnai Mitzvah program has nurtured more than 40 young men and women and shared in their joy of celebrating this important lifecycle event and first step towards adulthood. Many have remained active in Temple Shalom’s teen programs.
We presently offer monthly Shabbat services, as well as a host of activities revolving around the Jewish Calendar.
Temple Shalom welcomes your interest in our community and invites you to come to our services or visit our religious school to learn more about us.
The History of Temple Shalom
Temple Shalom is the culmination of the tremendous work and dedication of many individuals since a small group of families first came together in 2005 with the audacious goal of creating a new Temple in the South Bay. We began official activities in the fall of 2005 centered around a religious school, which started with 108 kids on nothing but the word of mouth of friends and families.
We are very grateful to the wonderful clergy and community of St. Cross by the Sea in Hermosa Beach, who graciously offer their facilities for our Religious School and Temple.
A major milestone for Temple Shalom was the purchase of our own Torah in 2007, a goal achieved with almost universal participation from our community.
Another milestone for Temple Shalom in 2008 was hosting our own High Holiday Services at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse, with over 250 in attendance.
We strive to maintain the principles of inclusiveness, progressiveness and caring that were the key drivers in our founding and we welcome you to our community.
