Welcome to Temple Shalom of the South Bay

Are you seeking a community where you can explore and celebrate Judaism in a meaningful way that includes your entire family?

Temple Shalom is the South Bay’s inclusive Jewish community. We represent the face of modern Judaism: Jewish couples, Jewish men and women and their non-Jewish spouses, blended families, partners, singles, seniors, teens, and toddlers.

Join this very special, growing spiritual home in Hermosa Beach; a place of joy, a place where you can learn and feel connected to others in meaningful ways.

It’s relevant Judaism for the 21st Century, and relevant Judaism for your life.

Message from Temple President, Jeff Davis

Welcome to Temple Shalom of the South Bay!

As president, I am excited to be a part of such a warm and vibrant congregation that has served the greater south bay community for the past 7 years.

Temple Shalom continues to grow and emphasize our value of building community, supporting each other by celebrating each other's joys and comforting one another in our sorrows. Inspired by the richness of our collective Jewish past, we offer a contemporary focus on Jewish ritual, values, and heritage as we embrace our commitment to  tradition while creating our own individual connection to our Jewish future.

With our innovative religious school, or our joyful holiday celebrations, Temple Shalom is the place to explore what it means to be a Jew in the twenty-first century. Whether it's Shabbat on the beach or under the stars, celebrating a B'nai Mitzvah or the birth of a child, we strive to provide spiritual inspiration for all ages. At TSSB, we are casual yet complete, grounded in tradition, and inclusive of all families and lifestyles.

If you are a current member or a potential future part of our congregation, we are glad you are visiting our newly designed website. We encourage you to check our calendar often as we have many events, classes, and services welcome to the public at no fee or a minimal fee. Our Adult Education classes provide a comfortable way to learn and ask questions, to discover new ways of connecting to tradition, community and God. Our school provides an engaging way for students to learn to read Hebrew, to interpret the meaning of prayers, to prepare for Bar or Bat Mitzvah and to study Judaica while making lifelong friendships. Our doors are open to Jews, non-Jewish spouses, and those interested in every level of observance and Jewish knowledge.

Regardless of what reasons motivate you to pursue your religious beliefs, I am confident that Temple Shalom of the South Bay can fulfill your every need. We live in a very special place and I am convinced that TSSB is a vibrant congregation that can provide inspiration to everyone here in the south bay!

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Jeff

Greetings from Rabbi Toba August

Shalom! Welcome to Temple Shalom of the South Bay

I have been the Rabbi at this progressive, family-oriented, “haimish” Temple for three years and invite you to join our dynamic programs and services.

We believe in the Reconstructionist philosophy of Judaism asserting that Judaism is an evolving culture rooted in tradition and adapting to meet contemporary needs. We are socially concerned, run a vibrant interactive Religious School, train and motivate our young adults for B’nai Mitzvah, have adult learning and together create a concerned and caring Holy community.

As a progressive temple, everyone is welcome and our interfaith families are embraced and valued. We learn from each other and grow spiritually and intellectually by recognizing and engaging in dialogue with different faiths.

With our active Havurah groups, Tot Shabbat programs, Inter-Faith Seder, monthly musical Shabbat service and more, you will find a home at Temple Shalom!
